Alexander the Great and Israel

Rabbi Berel Wein, a famous scholar and historian – admired through the world over for his lectures on Jewish history, speaks about Alexander the Great, the Great Greek Leader as he calls him and Greek influence.

The Jewish people remember Alexander and make a commitment that all the first born male children born during the year the Macedonian King entered Israel would be named after him. This is why it has become a common name in Jewish families, existing even to this day.
